Kennedy Center this Thursday!
Friends,
If you’ve ever been to a show of mine, you likely know that I came to D.C. by way of New Jersey. I have to admit something.
One of those things that you’re never supposed to admit if you live right outside of our nation’s capital with easy access to its monuments and museums….. I have never been to the Kennedy Center. Not once. Not ever. In my life. I’m changing that this Thursday, and I’d love it if you would plan to be there with me. This Thursday, April 9, I will be making my Kennedy Center debut on their Millenium Stage.
The best thing about the show? It’s FREE.
Thursday, 4/9 - 6 p.m. Kennedy Center’s Millenium Stage
Did I mention that it’s FREE? Come straight from work, grab a drink in the lobby, and join Jess, Todd and I for an hour of tunes. Then we can all say we’ve been to the Kennedy Center.
See you Thursday!
Luke
If you haven’t heard the new single “Lose You Now,” you can download it now as part of the Luke Brindley sampler at www.noisetrade.com. Pay what you want or download FREE by telling your friends!

my friend seth glier emailed me a few months ago and asked if i wanted to open his show at boccellis in bellows falls, vt on 3/13. i debated doing it for a long time - wasn’t a very big guarantee, wasn’t able to find another show in the northeast for the night after, etc. wasn’t sure it’d be worth it. left va on thursday. played maxwells in hoboken that night with jess bennett (and taylor carson and anthony fiumano) nice room, but NOISY people (see the videos on youtube). got to see some friends and family at the show.
left friday afternoon for vermont. hit traffic around manhattan (i learned later it was ski traffic - something i never would have thought of) cars were stopped at the gwb - slow moving the rest of the way until well into connecticut. had left plenty of time to get to the show but was going to be late. start time was 7:30. i rolled about 7:25. ray and amy at the venue were awesome helping me get set up quickly - but still no soundcheck, no downtime, etc.
tuned up the guitars while outlining a set list in my head, plugged in the guitar stuff and the stompbox, handed the cd’s off to my friend deb to sell for me. getting the strap on one of my guitars my thumb slipped and pulled my thumbnail back - painful! and quite disconcerting since i don’t use a pick - only my nails.
despite the stress of getting there late, no time to set up, soundcheck or write out the set list, and a thumbnail that felt like it was going to fall off i felt relaxed and in control. it was a beautiful room, the people were there to listen. i could tell it was going to be a special night.
and it was.
turned out to be one of the best shows in recent memory. played well but more more importantly was able to share and connect more with the audience about the songs. talked to many people afterwards who could relate to some aspect of what i talked or sang about (or just guitar playing!) sold 35 cds to the 52 people that were there.
jotted down some thoughts when i got back to jersey about 4am.
- it’s important to seek out the right audience for your music.
- share more from the stage about the songs etc. especially if the songs are at all thoughtful, meaningful, new to the audience, etc.
- did so well (even on a small scale) just gives me confidence that that is what i do just need to take the show on the road more and do it in front of more people ;)
- can’t compromise on lyrics and songwriting. standard has to be so high - undeniably great.
- i want the next record to reflect the sound and instrumentation of the live show recently - stripped down.
it’s hard to keep going sometimes - but nights like this make it worth it. the shows have been better than ever recently. can’t wait until the next one.
hope to see you there…

>jess bennett and me at maxwell’s in hoboken, nj last thursday playing “loving arms”. NOISY people in the back. was great otherwise.
